Strasburg making progress

Washington Nationals pitching phenom Stephen Strasburg is making progress in his recovery from Tommy John surgery.

The pitcher hopes to start throwing a few weeks before spring training and is upbeat about is progress.

Strasburg has been receiving physical therapy three times a week and believes he will be in better shape than before.

The sessions have focused a lot on his throwing shoulder, an area that bothers many pitchers returning from elbow surgery. (Read More…)

Nationals trade Willingham to A’s

The Washington Nationals have traded outfielder Josh Willingham to the Oakland Athletics.

In return, the Nationals received a pair of prospects to add some more depth to their farm system.

Willingham may be disappointed in the trade, having said earlier in the offseason that the Nationals seem ready to win.

The Nationals said the trade had nothing to do with salary or disappointment in Willingham’s production. (Read More…)

Nationals lock up Werth

The Washington Nationals have come out of nowhere to lock up free agent outfielder Jayson Werth.

The team signed worth to a seven-year contract worth $126 million, a contract that has some fuming in the MLB front office.

For a player that has really only had two good seasons and is already 31, the contract seems ridiculous.

There are also a number of teams that are probably unhappy about the benchmark now set for outfielder Carl Crawford. (Read More…)
